New features and functions available with Chillifire

15 August 2008 - Chillifire firmware update

The firmware has been updated with some fixes to the firewall and the start up script to support PPPoE connections. In addition a PPPoE connection status screen was added. This screen includes a start/stop function for the PPPoE connection. So far only DHCP mode connections were supported.

The new release is named 2.02.05 as is available in our download section.

16 June 2008 - New Chillifire firmware released

The new firmware has an improved graphical front-end, which allows you set up a number of things, that so far we could only configure for you – or were no available at all:

  • Configure your own homepage (the web page the hotspot directs customers to) as alternative to the hotspotlogin.php script – this allows you to lead customers to an advertising or documentation page of your choosing before they embark on purchasing online time. Don’t forget to include a link to http://192.168.182.1:3990/prelogin so customers can actually buy time and log on

  • Add pages or website as ‘walled garden’, meaning sites or pages customers can access without login in – typically your own business website(s)

  • Configure which LAN ports (Ethernet cable ports at the back of the router) are controlled by the hotspot software and which ones give free internet access – as default the two ports in the middle are configured for hotspot use –the two outer ones (1 and 4) are free access

  • Set your own SSID (hotspot name the customer will see), the output power of the antenna, the channel you are sending on etc.

  • Gauge hotspots in the vicinity of your own to ensure you don’t have frequency interference

  • A complete QoS (quality of Service) script module with an overall limit of down/upload speed

  • Limit the maximum number of connections

  • Set static IP address for certain LAN devices (by MAC address)

  • Connect other routers wirelessly as range extenders via WDS

  • A preconfigured wireless repeater version of the firmware (using WDS)

  • and many more ...

The initial release number is 2.02.04. All older releases will go out of support after 3 months.

Go to our download section to download the new versions and the new installation and configuration guides.

1 May 2008 - Pricing plan maintenance open for all

We have put the facility in place so every account can set their own price plans – no involvement of Chillifire is required anymore. Out of the box standard pricing plans are still maintained for major currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, NZD). As soon as you maintain your first own price package, these standard plans will not be offered to your customers any more, but your own ones will be the only ones the customer can see. This way you have ultimate flexibility in charging the appropriate rates for the different environments you may deploy your routers in.
